Abdulaziz Yuldoshev, of Hamden, surrendered to the Shelton Police Monday after an arrest warrant in connection with the investigation was issued for his arrest, said Shelton Police Det. Christopher Nugent.
Yuldoshev was charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, four counts of assault, and Illegal racing on River Road in connection with the deaths of 18-year-old Shalymar Herrera of West Haven and 23-year-old Briana Torres-Carter of Bridgeport, who was pregnant, said Nugent.
Both were passengers in a Mini Cooper that was being driven by Herrera's husband, Lawrence Carter, 19, of Bridgeport.
Carter and another passenger Jessie Abrams, 19, of Bridgeport, were seriously injured in the crash, police said.
According to witnesses, surveillance cameras in the area, and the department's action reconstruction team, police were able to determine that Yuldoshev was racing at the time of the crash around 7 p.m. on April 8, Nugent said.
The Mini Cooper was traveling southbound when it collided with a Saturn traveling northbound that had pulled onto the shoulder to avoid Yuldoshev's Toyota Camry that was racing with another vehicle, Nugent added.
The driver of the Saturn, Caitlin Kalafus, 25, of Pennsylvania, was injured along with her passengers Carly Kalafus, 22, and Paul Valleau, 26.
Yuldoshev posted a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on June 28.
Additional arrests are excepted in this investigation, Nugent said.
